I tried GeoSmile, an app that rewards you for moving. It is legit, but the rewards are very low and the app is full of ads. Below is what I found, and which apps and sites I recommend instead.
Legit, but very low rewards and a spammy app
You earn miles for steps and travel. It takes a very long time to reach a $5 gift card.

The short answer
GeoSmile is a legit app that lets you earn by moving around. It counts your steps and the distance you travel and pays you in miles, which you redeem for gift cards.
But in my opinion, GeoSmile is not worth your time, because the rewards are very low. You need 50,000 miles for a $5 gift card, and you can only earn a maximum of 10 miles per day from your steps. The app is also very spammy.
- Offers a passive form of earning
- Runs in the background while you move around
- Easy to use, on Android and iOS
- A Help section, a contact form and email support
- Offers very low rewards
- The app is very spammy
- 50,000 miles needed for a $5 gift card
- PayPal was not available when I tested it
- Only available in select countries
My experience with GeoSmile
I installed GeoSmile and looked at how it counts your movement, its other earning options and its rewards. This is what I did myself, and what I did not test.

Is GeoSmile legit and safe?
Yes, GeoSmile looks legit, because you really are rewarded for moving around. But that doesn’t automatically make it an app worth using. Here is what you should know.
- Very low rewards
You need 50,000 miles to redeem a $5 gift card, and you can only earn a maximum of 10 miles per day from your steps. Even with the miles from travel and surveys, it takes quite a long time to reach the threshold.
- A lot of ads
You are bombarded with ads while you use the app and while you play the slot machine game. When you claim miles from a full tank, the app asks you to watch a video ad to get more miles.
- Gift cards only, and they depend on your country
The rewards you can redeem depend on the country you live in and can change without prior notice. The app shows a PayPal logo, but when I tested it, PayPal was not available.
- Only in select countries
The app and website don’t tell you which countries it is available in. If it does not show up in your app store, it is not available in your country.
My takeIn my opinion, GeoSmile is not worth your time. The main reason why I say this is because of the very low rewards it offers. It will take you quite a long time to reach the threshold to redeem a reward. So, even though it offers a passive form of earning, you’ll still be better off finding more efficient ways to earn.
GeoSmile pays very little. The top sites in your country let you earn a decent amount more quickly.
See the best sites in your countryHow you earn on GeoSmile
There are 4 ways to earn. Moving around is the main one. Tap one to read more.
Moving aroundUp to 10 miles a day from steps
Bring your phone with you when you go out. The app counts the steps you take and the distance you travel. You earn 1 mile, the app’s currency, for every 1,000 steps, up to a maximum of 10 miles per day.
You also earn miles when you ride a train, car or bike. Every 10 km fills up GeoSmile’s tank. When the tank is full, you claim it for miles. The app asks you to watch a video ad to increase the miles. It is not mandatory, but you will need all the miles you can get.
It is essentially a passive way to earn, because the app runs in the background. Unfortunately, you are bombarded with a lot of ads while using it.
Paid surveysNot many
From time to time, you are asked to answer a short survey. You go through a qualifying process first. There are not a lot of surveys, so you can’t earn from them regularly.
Slot machine gameLuck only
You spend a coin, earned from moving around or from surveys, to play the slot machine. It is a game of chance, so you can’t earn from it reliably, and you have to deal with a lot of ads while you play.
Referral programUnclear
You share your invite code, and people who sign up with it become your referrals. The website is not clear on how the program works. Based on my experience, your referral must meet a certain requirement before you earn the referral reward.
How much can you make?
The app lets you earn passively, but you can’t expect to earn a lot. You need 50,000 miles just to redeem a $5 reward, and you can only earn a maximum of 10 miles per day from your daily steps.
Even if you add the miles from traveling and surveys, it takes quite a long time to reach 50,000 miles. That is why I consider its earning potential very low, and it is the main reason why it is not an app I would recommend to my friends.
Payout options and minimum
| Option | Minimum | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Gift cards: Amazon, Starbucks, Apple Pay and more | 50,000 miles for a $5 gift card | Depends on your country |
| PayPal | Not available | Shown in the app, but not available when I tested it |
All earning methods pay in miles. You can’t use them for travel like airline miles; you can only redeem them for rewards. The payment system is powered by XOXODay, a rewards and incentive platform. The payout options can change without prior notice.
The $5 threshold is low, but the number of miles you need makes that low threshold irrelevant, in my opinion. For a real low threshold, see the fastest paying sites.
Who can join GeoSmile?
From what I can tell, GeoSmile is only available in select countries. The best way to find out is to search for it in your app store. If it appears, it is available in your country.
Install the app and go through the sign-up process when you open it for the first time. It takes less than a minute. GeoSmile is mobile-only, so you can’t use it on a desktop. The app is easy to use, but the many pop-up ads make the user experience quite bad.
