Gener8 Review: Legit or Scam? (Full Truth Revealed)

Gener8 Rating

If your goal is to earn effectively, Gener8 is not the most ideal way to do it. The reason for this is, Gener8 doesn’t offer cash rewards and it only offers very low rewards. But it can be a passive and easy way to earn products and vouchers, if you are very patient.

I tested Gener8 myself and made a video of my test. It is legit and a passive way to earn points while you browse, but there are no cash rewards, you can earn at most 15 points a day from ads, and the ad replacement hurts the websites you like. Below is what I found, and which sites I recommend instead.

Legit, but no cash and a low daily limit

Earn points for the ads you see, your data and your referrals, and redeem them for products, vouchers and offers. No cash rewards.

The short answer

Gener8 is a legit site that rewards you for installing and using its browser, extension, app and other products. It keeps developing and has some interesting features.

But Gener8 doesn’t offer cash rewards, only products, vouchers and offers. You can earn at most 15 points a day from ads, so the earning potential is quite limited. And the ad replacement takes away the opportunity for website owners to earn. If your goal is to earn money effectively, this is not the most ideal site to join.

What I like
  • Offers a passive way to earn rewards
  • Keeps developing and improving
  • Several ways to earn: extension, browser, Tabs, app, Genie and referrals
  • App for iOS and Android
What I don’t like
  • There is a limit to the number of points you can earn per day
  • No cash rewards offered
  • Takes away the opportunity for website owners to earn
  • If you have it on when using GPT sites, you risk that surveys and offers cannot be tracked
  • Poor support at times

My experience with Gener8

I installed the Gener8 extension, set my preferences, browsed with it and made a video of my test. This is what I did myself, and what I did not test.

Is Gener8 legit and safe?

Yes, Gener8 is legit. But it is quite different from most sites where you earn by watching ads, and it has limits you need to consider.

  • No cash, and rewards can be hard to get

You can only redeem products, vouchers, offers and charity donations. Since I first published this review, many readers told me the rewards were often not available. It seems this has improved, but there is still no guarantee you can get the exact reward you want.

  • It can break tracking on GPT sites

Rewards Mode blocks ad tracking. If you use Get-Paid-To sites with it on, surveys and offers may not be tracked and you would not earn. Turn Rewards Mode off, or set those sites to ignore the extension.

  • It hurts the websites you like

The extension replaces the ads on websites with ads from Gener8’s partners. That takes away an important way for website owners to earn, and in the long run that means less free, quality content.

  • Support is a bit random

I got an answer within 24 hours once, but not a complete one. When I asked critical questions later, I never heard back.

  • Your country decides how much you earn

There is no guarantee you reach 15 points a day. In some countries, you will not even get close to this.

My takeThe whole idea of giving consumers back the power over their data is nice, and some of the newer features are interesting. But if you like the websites you visit, you should not use the Gener8 extension or browser. And if you want to earn extra cash, there are far better sites.

How you earn on Gener8

There are 5 ways to earn. Every one pays in Gener8 points. Tap one to read more.

The browser extension or Gener8 browserUp to 15 points a day
The Gener8 browser extension

Install the extension on Chrome or Firefox, and uninstall any ad blocker first. Set your preferences so Gener8 knows which ads to show. When a page shows an ad, the extension replaces it with an ad from a Gener8 partner, and you get points.

You can switch to Privacy Mode at any time, or set a website to ignore the extension. Gener8 now also has its own browser, similar to Brave Browser.

Gener8 TabsPoints per tab

A second extension that shows ads every time you open a new tab. It uses the preferences you set in the main extension.

The Gener8 appFrom your data
The Gener8 app

Connect other apps you use to the Gener8 app. You can see the data these apps hold on you, anonymize it, and earn from it yourself. Gener8 does not explain exactly how; I assume the data is used for market research. The app is on iOS and Android.

Gener8 GenieSavings
Gener8 Genie

Genie finds promo codes online and applies them to your basket when you shop. It is a nice idea if you shop online regularly. It works on the Gener8 browser and on Chrome.

Referral program10 points each
Referral program of Gener8

Share your referral link. When someone installs the extension and earns their first point, you both get 10 points.

How much can you make?

Not a lot. Even if you browse a thousand websites a day, the most you can earn from ads is 15 points. That is the maximum, not a guarantee, and in some countries you will not get close.

Gener8 has added more ways to earn since it launched, which is great. But it is still not an ideal way to earn extra cash. The real value is getting something out of ads you see anyway. If you want cash, see the top sites that pay via PayPal.

Mikael: I completely agree that they oversell it and make it sounds a lot better than it actually is.

“It’s not a scam, it just appears to be a failed idea that isn’t working as originally intended.”

  1. You may need to update your review seeing as you claim you cant use gener8 on mobile and yet the have an entire mobile app (on android at least) and if oso inclined can opt in to generate more points through giving them your google data.

As for the rewards not being worth it and people not being able to claim anything on the market place, that is down to luck and timing but I have never failed to receive a single voucher or offer or auction since using them when the first started up and regularly manage to get hold of the Amazon, Steam, Just Eat, PSN, Costa, Tesco and Asda cards which is handy since my recent rent increase has taken an absolutely massive chunk out of my monthly budget so the extra £15, and £5 and £3 every now and then helps out a lot.

    • Thanks for sharing your experiences. I will look into this asap and update the review accordingly. However, my main point in the review is the threat a paltform like this is to access to free content and the problems with them hijacking ads on creators’ websites. If you like access to free content, using something like Gener8 will actually hurt your favorite creators and eventually mean they can no longer afford to create free content.

  2. Genr8 works fine i dont really notice their adverts but still rack in points
I have only made about £9 in amazon 2 vouchers from the drops and one from the mystery box which i spent around 200 points on until i got an amazon voucher

the majority of cards are impossible to get unless u set a timer up to grab them and even then you can only get amazon giftcards as things like just eat are impossible to grab ontop of that its one card per drop so dont expect much

everything other then their giftcards are random free trials or deals you can find on the internet if you look hard enough and are not worth purchasing with your points you may get lucky and occasionally grab a card in time or win an auction by over paying with your mostly useless points

its nice to just have you can get a £3 giftcard easily when just installing it if you invite friends after you got the points if you dont want to wait

the service is much worse then something like microsoft rewards and it could be good if giftcards were always in stock but thats not the case

  3. I think its a useless service. You gain money for just browsing … but the money may as well be monopoly notes, you can’t buy anything from their “market place”. They allow you to spend £5 at first making you think it works, and thats it, every single other purchase is a timed limited quantity or auction.

It’s not a scam, it just appears to be a failed idea that isn’t working as originally intended. I personally have around 700 currency, if I could transfer that to Amazon vouchers its £70 … but I can’t unless once a month I sit waiting and spamming refresh on a countdown timer to claim £5 (the max I can claim a month).

Ill leave it running for a while, maybe one day it will work as expecting, but I doubt that will ever come as they may have 1000s of users all wanting to making £100s if not £1000s of purchases which bankrupt the company over night.

  4. I managed to take these scammers for over a grand in Amazon vouchers over 3 months before the shutters came down and they stopped almost anyone from buying any of the vouchers with their points. Since they don’t let you have more than one voucher, I figured it was only fair to scam them back. It was fantastic while it lasted. Ran a macro on repeat for my web browsing on multiple accounts. Made money while sitting in the garden drinking tea. Sold the majority of my vouchers for cash.

  5. Sorry my previous post says “they are supposed to only retain 80% but this is simply not the case.” I meant to put 20% but it is more likely that they are keeping 80% or more!

  6. I consider Gener8 to be something of a scam. Not only does it have poor offers etc as ‘POINT’ stated previously. The points get less and less the longer you stay on the site.
    Customer service is non existent!
Clearly they are receiving money from the advertisers and they are supposed to only retain 80% but this is simply not the case.
I’m amazed they had two ‘Dragons’ support them initially, not sure if they dropped out but can’t imagine that in the long term they would want to be associated with such a scam company!

I was honestly also very surprised when I heard two “Dragons” supported this company.

  7. I have followed Gener8 since its first days. They sent me a 2GB USB stick and they didn’t pay the postage fee, so I had to pay £1.50 when I received it. But, they deducted 50 points, for the USB stick, from points that I collected by watching ads. Now, go and check how much is a 2GB USB stick.
Almost everything you can get using only your collected points is not available, they become available just for a couple of seconds and get sold out in two seconds. I removed my account with over 2000 points.
The funny thing is in this article you have not shown any pictures of unavailable items in their marketplace.

    • Thanks for sharing your experiences about this.

As you can see in the review, I think there are many good reasons NOT to use Gener8.

And I will make sure to also update the review asap with info about unavailable items as many people have said this is an issue also.

  8. The marketplace is not what it seems, the only items you can actually redeem for your points are things like coupons and “free” offers available to anyone at many other sites.
Marketplace items with any actual value, eg £5 gift cards, are a ticket to a lottery, you are not getting anything with value, just the chance to something with unknown odds.
It’s not a scam, it is certainly misleading, you can build up thousands of points but that’s all they are, just points in a virtual wallet, you can’t exchange your points for something with actual value.

I completely agree that they oversell it and make it sounds a lot better than it actually is. That is also why I have given it such a low rating.
