Cash For Steps is an iOS fitness app that rewards you for walking. I tested it to see if it is worth your time. It is legit, but the rewards are low and slow to reach. Below is what I found, and which apps I would pick first.
Legit, but a slow way to earn
Points for walking achievements, polls and a daily raffle. PayPal or an Amazon gift card from $10, iOS only.

The short answer
Cash For Steps is legit. It is a fitness app that tracks your steps and rewards you with points for walking achievements, short polls and a daily raffle. You can cash out to PayPal or an Amazon gift card.
But the rewards are very low, and it takes a long time to reach the $10 minimum. You will run out of achievements at some point, and you see a video ad every time you switch to another section of the app. If your goal is to earn extra cash, you will be disappointed. Its best value is that it can motivate you to be more active.
- Offers a convenient payout method: PayPal
- It can help motivate you to be physically active
- Simple sign-up, and it syncs with your phone, a health app or a Fitbit
- Limited earning opportunities
- Low rewards
- You’ll have to deal with a lot of video ads
- iOS only
- Only in certain countries

Is Cash For Steps legit and safe?
Yes, Cash For Steps is legit, because you can really earn from it. But that does not make it worth your time. Here is what you should know.
- It takes a long time to cash out
You need 10,000 points ($10). A 5-star achievement pays 1,000 points, and a poll pays 50 points, so it takes a long time to get there.
- You run out of achievements
Achievements are the main way to earn, but there is a limited number of them. After that, you depend on polls and the daily raffle.
- A lot of video ads
You see a video ad every time you switch to a different section of the app. That makes the user experience quite annoying.
- The raffle is luck
Only the top 500 members by steps that day can win, and only 50 of them get $1. Do not count on it.
- It needs your location and step data
To earn, you must allow the app to determine your location and to track your steps.
My takeCash For Steps is not a bad fitness app. But if your goal is to earn extra cash, you will be disappointed with it, because it takes a long time to earn a decent amount. The best value it gives is that it can motivate you to stay physically active, which is really the purpose of most fitness apps, in my opinion.
Cash For Steps pays very little for your steps. The top sites in your country let you earn a lot more.

There are 3 ways to earn. Achievements pay the most. Tap one to read more.
Walking achievements1,000 points ($1)
After you sign up, allow the app to determine your location and set up how it counts your steps. You can sync the data from your phone, another health app, or a Fitbit or fitness watch.
You unlock an achievement when you reach a goal, such as 7,500 steps in one day. You only get the reward when you reach 5 stars for that achievement: 1,000 points. Most achievements just ask you to walk and use the app, so you have to be patient.
Daily raffle$1, luck only
To join the raffle, you must be among the top 500 members by steps for the day. Cash For Steps then picks 50 random members from the top 500 of the previous day, and they get $1 each. It is not a guaranteed way to earn.
Short polls50 points each
From time to time, the app asks you to answer short surveys. They are more like polls than the surveys on survey sites, so they are easy to complete. 50 points is not much, but they take little time and effort.
How much can you make?
Not much. A 5-star achievement pays $1, but it takes considerable time to reach one, so the time-to-money ratio is not great. You will also run out of achievements at some point. Then the polls and the daily raffle are all that is left.
Fitness apps are not a great way to earn extra cash, in my opinion. Think of Cash For Steps as a tool to be healthier. That is worth more than the money you earn from it.

Payout methods and minimum
| Method | Minimum | Value |
|---|---|---|
| PayPal | 10,000 points | $10 |
| Amazon gift card | 10,000 points | $10 |
Redeeming a reward is fairly straightforward. I like that it offers PayPal, one of the most convenient payout options. For more apps with this payout method, see the top sites that pay via PayPal.
Who can join, and how
The app does not say exactly which countries it is available in. From what I can tell, it is only in certain countries, such as the US, the UK, Canada and major European countries. You must be at least 17 years old.
Cash For Steps is only available on iOS. If you use Android, see the best money-making apps for Android instead. There is no desktop version, because you have to be on the move to earn.
Install the app, and sign up with Facebook, your Apple ID or your email address. The app then walks you through the account setup, and you can start earning.
