15 Best User Testing Sites That Pay (Free and Legit)

I tested every site on this list

Most user testing sites ask you to record your screen and speak your thoughts out loud, and some also want your camera or a live call. Tests pay fairly well but do not come often, so below I show what each site asks of you and how it pays.

My top 3 user testing sites

  1. #1 UserTesting

Best for: Video feedback on sites and apps

You record your screen and talk through your thoughts, on a Mac, PC, Android or iOS device. PayPal usually pays about a week after the test.

Tests are not frequent on any of these sites, so I suggest you join several of them.

15 best user testing sites

I won’t be listing down all the user testing sites that exist, but instead, I will list down what I think are the best sites you can join to get the most value out of your time. Quality over quantity, as they say.

I will keep updating this list if there are any new good sites to join. So make sure to bookmark this page.

#1 UserTesting

How you test
Record your screen and voice
Available in
More or less worldwide
Paid via
PayPal

UserTesting, as the name suggests, will allow you to earn by testing sites. All tests you need to do on this site are in the form of video feedback. That means that you will have to record your screen so you can show them how you navigate on the specific website.

Aside from that, you will have to explain your thoughts and give feedback on certain questions through a microphone. You can do the tests on a Mac or a PC but you can also do it on an Android or iOS mobile device.

They pay you via PayPal, and usually, it takes about a week to be credited to your account (starting from the time you finish the test). The tests aren’t that frequent, but you get paid up to $60 per test. So, if you ever get to complete one, you will be able to earn a decent amount, which is why it’s on this list.

#2 TestingTime

How you test
Usability tests, at most once a month
Available in
More or less worldwide
Paid via
PayPal · Direct bank transfer

TestingTime is a legit testing site that pays you for participating in their usability tests. You get paid a significant amount for each test. You can also earn by inviting other people to join.

Once you complete your first usability test, they will ask you to choose the payment method you want to use. You can choose to get paid via PayPal or direct bank transfer. You can earn up to €50 per hour for every test you complete.

But keep in mind, you will, at most, get to test once every month. So, don’t expect to earn hundreds of Euros every month from this site. But overall, in my opinion, it’s still one of the best user testing sites to join because of the significant amount you will receive when completing tests.

#3 uTest

How you test
Find bugs, paid per bug
Available in
More or less worldwide
Paid via
PayPal · Payoneer

uTest is one of the user testing platforms that offers the most user testing jobs. However, it also works a bit differently than most other sites on this list.

You will not get paid a set amount per task, but instead be paid per bug you find when testing websites and apps. If you are good at this kind of work, it can give some quite decent earnings, and you can also learn all about how to do the tasks through their free training academy.

You will get paid monthly for the completed tasks and can choose to get paid via PayPal or Payoneer.

#4 Tryber

How you test
Testing campaigns and bug finding
Available in
More or less worldwide
Paid via
PayPal · Bank transfer

Tryber is a crowdtesting community where you can earn by testing various websites, software, and apps, and you can also earn by finding bugs in them. To earn, you just have to participate in testing campaigns.

After completing a campaign, you’ll earn a certain amount, and once you’ve earned at least €3, you can request payment via direct bank transfer or PayPal. The payment will be processed within 20 days, which is a bit of a long wait time, in my opinion. This is the only downside of this website.

But the good news is that it is more or less available worldwide, so you can sign up as a member anywhere in the world. You just have to be at least 18 years old to join.

#5 Userlytics

How you test
Usability tests, sometimes live interviews
Available in
More or less worldwide
Paid via
PayPal

Apart from usability tests, Userlytics also offers another way to earn, which is through in-depth interviews. So, if you are looking for a more unique way to get paid for user testing, Userlytics is an option.

From time to time, there will be live testing or in-depth interviews conducted by site owners where you get to chat with the owner of the site (or a representative) and provide feedback about their site/app in real-time.

You get to earn around $5 to $20 per test you complete, which is a decent rate. But what really makes this a worthy site to join, aside from the significant pay, is the convenient payment method it offers (PayPal).

#6 Userfeel

How you test
Screen recording with their program
Available in
More or less worldwide
Paid via
PayPal · Amazon gift cards

Userfeel specializes in providing feedback to its partner companies about their sites. They do that through usability tests on their websites to find out which areas need improvement. You need to download a program to record your screen.

Once you complete a test, you get paid either via PayPal or Amazon gift cards of the same amount. For every test you complete, you will be paid $10, which is not too shabby. So, if anything else, they are consistent with how much they pay, which can be a good thing for you.

Once you get used to how tests are done, you will be able to complete them rather quickly. You will then become a more efficient earner, which is the main reason why I included this site on this list.

#7 PlaytestCloud

How you test
Play new mobile games
Available in
US, UK, Canada
Paid via
PayPal

If you are looking for app testing sites where you can get paid to play mobile games, then PlaytestCloud is a great option.

You will be invited to test new mobile games and can usually earn around $9 per 15-minute test, so if you like playing games on your phone, this can be a fun way to earn a bit extra. Just be aware that there will usually be far between the invitations for paid tests.

You can, in theory, join from more or less all countries, but you will mainly find paid tasks if you live in the US, UK, or Canada.

#8 Trymata (formerly TryMyUI)

How you test
Website tests, sometimes live interviews
Available in
Worldwide
Paid via
PayPal

Trymata (formerly TryMyUI) is one of the user testing sites that is mainly focused on testing the user interface of a website. But you can also sometimes earn by testing apps or by participating in live interviews.

Once you register, you will be given access to their member dashboard, where you can see all the available offers for testing.

When you click on a test offer, you will then be asked to download the test file. This test file will contain the instructions you need to follow to complete the test. Once you complete the test, you will receive a specific amount.

You will then get paid via PayPal and payments are processed daily. They pay a minimum of $10 per test, which is a decent amount. Not a lot of sites pay daily, so it can certainly be refreshing to find one that will allow you to receive your payment fast.

#9 User Interviews

How you test
Interviews, focus groups and tasks, online, by phone or in person
Available in
Worldwide
Paid via
PayPal · Direct bank transfer · Gift cards

User Interviews is another user testing site that is worth your time. You can participate in four types of studies: 1-on-1 interview, focus group, unmoderated task, and multi-day study. These studies are conducted either in person, over the phone, or online.

The rewards you will get will depend on the research study. Some studies will pay you in cash via PayPal or direct bank transfer, while some will reward you with an Amazon electronic gift card or a digital Reward Link gift card.

User Interviews is available globally, but most of its clients are US companies, so most of the opportunities you will find on the site will be for US residents.

#10 Preely

How you test
Studies in your area
Available in
Scandinavia
Paid via
Gift cards

Preely is a user testing site that will let you earn when participating in user testing projects. Once you become a member, you will be notified if there is a study in your area. If you take part in the study and manage to complete it, you will receive compensation.

You can get gift cards for Zalando, Wolt, and many more. It is only available in certain countries in Europe.

#11 Conversion Crimes

How you test
Screen recording, desktop or mobile
Available in
Worldwide
Paid via
PayPal

Conversion Crimes is a user testing site that offers user testing opportunities for you to earn extra cash. When testing websites, you’ll have to record your screen using the software provided by the site.

Every time you successfully complete a user testing project, you will earn a certain amount. Then, you will be able to withdraw your earnings via PayPal. Payments are processed every Monday evening (EST). So, whatever you’ve earned from Tuesday of the previous week until before the payment is processed will be deposited into your PayPal account.

Conversion Crimes is available worldwide, so you can register as a member regardless of which country you live in. It doesn’t have a mobile app, but you can still perform tests for mobile versions of websites since its screen recorder also has a mobile version.

#12 HotJar

How you test
Live video call with the client
Available in
Worldwide
Paid via
PayPal · Wise

Hotjar (formerly called PingPong) is another website testing platform that will let you earn by testing websites. It is quite unique because the testing process will be in the form of an interview. You’ll hop on a video call with the client while testing the site.

Then, you’ll receive compensation after you complete an interview session. You have the option to get paid via PayPal or Wise. It can take up to 7 business days for the amount to be credited to your PayPal (or Wise) account.

It is available more or less worldwide, but the opportunities to earn will mostly be concentrated in countries like the US, UK, Canada, and other big countries.

#13 Loop11

How you test
Chrome extension, app for mobile tests
Available in
Worldwide
Paid via
PayPal · Bank transfer

Loop11 is a usability testing platform that will let you earn by performing usability tests on various websites and mobile apps. To perform the test, you must install Loop11’s browser extension, which is only available for Google Chrome.

It’s not quite clear how it pays, but I would expect that it uses a convenient payout method like PayPal or bank transfer. It has a mobile app you can use, but only for testing mobile apps.

It is available more or less worldwide, so you can apply as a tester anywhere in the world.

#14 UserAdvocate

How you test
Simple tasks, no technical knowledge needed
Available in
Worldwide
Paid via
PayPal · Direct bank transfer

UserAdvocate is the user-testing platform of UXArmy, a user research website that offers its clients usability testing and moderated research services. The tests will ask you to do simple tasks when testing websites or apps, so you don’t need to have technical knowledge to perform the tests.

You can get paid via direct bank transfer or PayPal. It also has a mobile app you can download, so you can perform tests on your mobile phone.

#15 BetaTesting

How you test
Find errors and bugs
Available in
Worldwide
Paid via
PayPal

BetaTesting is a site that will let you earn by performing usability tests. If you are not familiar with this opportunity, it is a test to evaluate if a site or mobile app has errors, bugs, and other things that need fixing. So, it requires a certain level of attention to detail.

You’ll get paid via PayPal. It is also available worldwide. That being said, the opportunities for user testing will not be the same in all countries. Some countries, like the US, UK, and Canada (to name a few), will offer more opportunities to earn.

How do user testing sites work?

User testing sites ask you to test websites and mobile apps, and they pay you for your time. The owners of those sites and apps use your feedback to see which parts they can improve. So you need to do more to earn than on a survey or Get-Paid-To site.

There are many platforms where you can supposedly get paid to test apps and websites, and many of them are just a complete waste of time. I have tested MANY user testing platforms, so you do not have to find the good ones by trial and error.

  1. Get a testThe site sends you a test for a website or app.
  2. Record your screenUsually with software the site gives you, so they can see how you move around.
  3. Speak your thoughtsMost sites ask you to say out loud what you think. Some also record your face.
  4. Get paidYou are usually paid after each test, as soon as your work is approved.

Most tests: record on your own

You record your screen and voice while you do the tasks, and send it in when you are done.

Some tests: live with the client

On sites like Userlytics, Trymata and HotJar, you sometimes join a live interview or video call and give feedback in real time.

Not comfortable speaking out loud?

Then this is, in most cases, not the right opportunity for you. Since you record audio, also make sure you work in a quiet room so they can hear your voice.

What you need before you start

In general, you do not need to buy extra equipment. Check these things:

  • A computer or phone with a microphone. Most already have a camera and microphone built in.
  • Headphones with a microphone, if you have them. The sound recordings will be better.
  • A quiet room to work in.
  • A PayPal account. Almost all sites on this list pay through PayPal.
  • No money. All the sites on this list are free to join, with no membership or registration fee.
  • Google Chrome, for Validately and Loop11. Both need a Chrome extension.

How much can you earn by testing websites and apps?

User testing sites know their tasks take more work, so the good ones usually pay a decent amount, as long as your work passes their requirements. How much you get per test depends a lot on how complex the test is.

The most normal range I see is somewhere between $10 and $20 for a test that takes around 15 to 20 minutes. I have also seen tests pay as much as $80 for 30 minutes, and I have been lucky to qualify for a few tests like that myself. Most, if not all, of the sites on this list pay you in cash.

  • Usually no payout thresholdYou are usually paid after each test, once your work is approved. So you do not wait long for your money.
  • Join several sitesYou can join as many as you want, so you get invited to more paid tests.

Tests do not come often

Even though the pay per test is rather good, the overall earning potential is not that high. Do not expect it to be like a full-time job.

You can also check out my list of the best passive ways to earn extra cash online, so you earn extra in the background while you do your user tests, or whenever you are online.

How the 15 sites pay youNumber of sites that offer each payout method. Many sites offer more than one.
  • PayPal14 of 15
  • Bank transfer5 of 15
  • Gift cards3 of 15
  • Payoneer or Wise2 of 15

Can anyone do this?

Yes, no matter your background or location.

It suits you well if you are good at paying attention to details. Some tests have specific requirements, but there are many tests open to you whatever your background. Many of the sites are available worldwide.

Your country matters

How many tests you get, and how well they pay, depends a lot on where you live. In some countries you find few tests, or it is very hard to qualify. Then it takes more patience.

Worth it if you like to talk

If you are comfortable speaking your thoughts out loud and want a free way to earn some extra money, I think testing websites and apps is worth going for.

How I choose the sites on this list

What I look at

  • Legit and free to join
  • A decent pay rate per test
  • A convenient way to get paid
  • How easy it is to get tests

What readers ask in the comments

This page has 69 comments since 2020, and I answered 33 of them. These are the questions that come up most, with my answers.

Will I get tests in my country?Asked about 12 times

My answer: Worldwide means you can join from more or less all countries, but how many tests you get varies a lot. In some countries you should not expect many, if any. Then check my list of the best international sites instead.

Which site should I join first, and do I need any skills?Asked about 5 times

My answer: Not really, but it depends on the exact test. I explain what each platform has to offer on the list, so use that to choose what fits you best. The full reviews have more details.

Do I have to talk or show my face?Asked about 3 times

My answer: Most user testing sites ask you to record your screen while you speak out loud. Usually you do not have to show your face. If you do not want to talk, beta testing jobs are similar, and there you usually do not record your screen or voice.

How much can I make if I join all of them?Asked about 3 times

My answer: I cannot give an exact answer. How many tests you qualify for depends a lot on your country and your profile. In general, you should not expect to do this for a living.

Do I need a webcam or other equipment?Asked about 2 times

My answer: In general, no. Most computers and phones already have a camera and microphone built in. The one great extra, in my experience, is headphones with a microphone, because the sound recordings will be better. Your phone headphones are fine.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best paid UserTesting sites?

My top 3 are UserTesting, TestingTime and uTest. UserTesting pays for video feedback on sites and apps, TestingTime pays a significant amount per usability test, and uTest pays you per bug you find.

The comparison shows what each of the 17 sites asks of you and how it pays.

Does UserTesting actually pay?

Yes. UserTesting pays through PayPal, and it usually takes about a week from the time you finish the test until the money is in your account.

The tests are not that frequent, though, so do not count on a test every day.

Are online tester jobs legit?

Many platforms where you can supposedly get paid to test apps and websites are just a waste of time. The sites on this list are legit and free to join. None of them asks for a membership or registration fee.

How can I become a website tester?

Sign up for free on one or more of the sites on this list. You usually need a computer or phone with a microphone, and a quiet room, because most tests ask you to record your screen and speak your thoughts out loud.

Join several sites, since tests do not come often. That way you get invited to more paid tests.

Does Trymata pay daily?

Yes. Trymata pays through PayPal, and payments are processed daily. Not a lot of sites pay daily, so it is nice to find one where you get your payment fast.

Can user testing be a side hustle?

Yes, as a way to earn some extra money. The pay per test is rather good, but tests are not that frequent, so the overall earning potential is not that high. Do not expect it to be like a full-time job.

How many tests you get also depends a lot on the country you live in.

  1. Hi Mikael I’m from Afghanistan and I spent a lot of time searching for ways to earn money online, but I didn’t get the right result. All survey sites in Afghanistan are completely closed, and most other applications that pay through Paypal and the like cannot earn money from them because Paypal, Payoneer, and the like are mostly unavailable in Afghanistan. Which way do you suggest for me to earn a good income of about $100 per month?

  3. Unfortunately, Preelypanel.com now restricts their opportunities to what is called panels: Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Germany – all in Europe. And I don’t understand the language since I speak English.

I have worked around it to sign up but it appears one needs to choose a panel from these 4 given to continue and none are in the English language.
    Any word about this development?

    • If a panel is only available in certain countries and you fake your country, it is fraud, and they will detect this at some point, and then you will get banned and not paid.

  5. if I sign up for as many of these 15 testing sites as possible, based off of what you understand about each site. how much could I make a month if im trying to take every opportunity that comes through? I have a nice computer with camera, and a nice studio microphone to allow people to hear me well. I am also a web and app full stack developer, and have 3 startups in my work history, so I can offer a lot of advice and support in this realm of working. Problem is that I just moved to a space where there is little work and I need something virtual to help with bills.
Thank you for your time and wisdom in your field,

    • I cannot give an exact answer to that as how many tests you qualify for depends a lot on the country you live in and your profile. So for some, signing up 15 sites would give them quite a lot of tests and for others that would likely not get many. But, in general, you should not expect to do this for a living or anything like that.

I have watched your videos and subscribed to your channel. I have noticed your honesty and attention to detail. Not many people will tell you that, but trust me, if I see that, they do too.
For example, in one of your videos, you drill down to detail, explaining how little you would earn listening to YouTube music when everybody else makes it look like a retirement plan.

Please continue doing the great work that you do so meticulously. We are watching and benefitting from your hard labour.

  16. I have a question. Can we use our Android phone as a webcam to answer the tests where they want to see our reaction/expressions?
(I’m talking about these user testing sites)
OR is it compulsory to have an external webcam?

There are applications like DroidCam, IP cam etc which let us use our Android phone’s camera(both front & rear) as the Webcam for PC/laptop.

I have used it many times & it works perfectly fine. Do you have any idea regarding my question?

    Reply
    • for the projects where they allow you to do it on phone, your regular phone camera should be enough. In general, there is no need to get extra equipment to participate in these tests.

Most computers and phones will already have what they need as most already have a camera and microphone build in. The only great extra thing to have, in my experience, is a set of headphones with a microphone as the sound recordings will then be better. But you can just use the headphones you use for your phone anyway.
