Octopus Group says it is one of the highest-paying survey sites in Australia. I tested it to see if it lives up to that. It is legit and pays well per survey, but it has a $20 threshold and the same surveys as other sites. Below is what I found, and which sites I would pick first.
Legit and pays well per survey, for Australia and New Zealand only
Cash, not points, and $0.20 when you do not qualify. But a $20 threshold, no PayPal, and the same surveys as other sites.

The short answer
Octopus Group is a legit survey site that pays well per survey. It pays cash instead of points, and you even get $0.20 when you do not qualify for a survey.
But it is only for Australia and New Zealand, it has a $20 payout threshold, and it does not pay through PayPal. Its surveys are also on many other Australian survey sites. If you live in Australia or New Zealand, it can be worth checking out.

- $0.20 for every survey you do not qualify for
- Cash rewards, no points system
- User-friendly website and app for Android and iOS

Is Octopus Group legit and safe?
Yes, Octopus Group is legit. It pays you for answering surveys, and it is one of the higher-paying survey sites I have come across. Here is what you should know before you join.
- The same surveys as other sites
Octopus Group’s surveys are not only on this platform. You can take the same surveys on many other Australian survey sites. If you are already a happy member of those, it will not give you more surveys.
- A $20 threshold
You can only cash out once you have $20. Because it pays well per survey, it should not take too long to reach.
- SMS checks
You need your mobile phone to register, because Octopus Group sends you an SMS. Each bank transfer request is also confirmed by an SMS from your registered number.
- No notifications when the app is closed
The app only notifies you of new surveys while it is running. If you close it, you get no survey notifications.
My takeOctopus Group is a great site to join if you are eligible. It pays decently and it is very easy to use. The drawbacks are minor: the $20 threshold and no PayPal. Just be aware that it offers the same surveys as many other sites, so if you are already happy with other survey sites, it might not be worth it.
Not in Australia or New Zealand? The top sites in your country give you more ways to earn.

There are 2 ways to earn. Surveys make up most of the money. Tap one to read more.
Paid surveysAround $1 to $10 each
You get a notification in the app or by email when you are selected for a survey. You can also log in to the website to see your surveys. Each survey shows how long it takes and how much you earn.
You first answer some qualifying questions. If you qualify, you take the survey and get the reward. If you do not qualify, you still get $0.20 for your time. That is $1 for every five surveys you do not qualify for.
Answer all the polls you see. They help you qualify for more surveys later.
Referral programUp to $20 per friend
You get $1 for every person you invite who becomes a member. You then get $1 for every survey they complete, up to 19 times. That is up to $20 per friend.
How much you really get depends on how active your friend is. Share your invite link, or give your friend your invite code to enter during registration.
How much can you make?
Octopus Group pays well, from what I observed while I tested it. It is one of the higher-paying survey sites I have come across. You will typically earn around $1 to $10 for every survey you complete.
You also get $0.20 when you do not qualify, which adds up. So you can earn a decent amount, especially if you qualify for a lot of surveys.
The ways to earn are limited, though: surveys and referrals. And the surveys are the same as on many other Australian survey sites.
Payout methods and minimum
| Method | Minimum | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Direct bank transfer | $20 | Enter the amount and your bank details (BSB, account number), then confirm by SMS from your registered number |
| Gift cards | $20 | Pick a gift card and value. You get an email with an e-voucher to use online, on your phone or printed in a store. |
Octopus Group does not use points. It says points hide the true value of your rewards, and I agree. You see right away what you earn. The redemptions section only opens once you have more than $20.
I wish it also offered PayPal. If you want sites with that method, see the top sites that pay via PayPal.
