I signed up for Beta Family to see if testing mobile apps there is worth it. It is legit and pays a decent amount per test, but there are few paid tests and the payout threshold is $50. Below is what I found, and which sites I recommend instead.
Legit app testing, but few paid tests and a $50 threshold
About $5 to $20 per paid test, through PayPal. Few paid tests, so it can take months to cash out.

The short answer
Beta Family is legit. You really get paid to test mobile apps. A paid test pays about $5 to $20, which is not a bad rate.
But there are few paid tests, and you are not guaranteed to be accepted for them. With a $50 payout threshold, it can take months before you can withdraw. It is not a bad site, but it is also not that good. Join it only as an extra user testing site.

Is Beta Family legit and safe?
Yes, Beta Family is legit, because you really get paid to test apps. But being legit does not automatically make it worth your time. Here is what you should know.
- Few paid tests
When I checked, there was a decent number of tests, but only two paid tests. Not every test pays you, so you cannot expect to earn regularly.
- You have to be accepted
You apply for each test and wait for Beta Family to confirm. There is no guarantee you will be accepted, and it usually takes up to a couple of days to hear back.
- A $50 payout threshold
You can only withdraw once you reach $50. With few paid tests, it can take months before you can cash out.
- Testing takes some skill
You have to try to make the app fail, describe each bug in detail, and give step-by-step instructions to reproduce it. It takes some imagination and experience.
My takeBeta Family is not a bad user testing site, in my opinion. However, it is also not that good. It pays a decent amount per test, but it offers limited earning opportunities, so it can take a while before you earn a significant amount. I would only join it if you need an additional user testing site.
How you earn on Beta Family
There is only one way to earn: paid tests of mobile apps.
Testing mobile appsAbout $5 to $20 each
Log in to the member dashboard to see all the apps you can test. A paid test shows the amount you earn. If a test does not show an amount in dollars, it is not paid, so you can ignore it if you only want to earn.
Click a paid test to see its details, then click “Apply”. Beta Family confirms by email and on your dashboard if you are accepted. Then you get instructions for the test.
When you test, your job is to find errors and bugs. Describe each bug in detail, try to reproduce it, and be honest. When you are done, submit your report. Beta Family reviews it, and if everything is in order, you get paid.
How much can you make?
It depends on how many paid tests you complete. A paid test pays about $5 to $20, which is not a bad rate, in my opinion.
But there were only two paid tests when I checked, and there is no guarantee you will be accepted. So you cannot expect to earn regularly from this site.
With a $50 threshold, it can take months before you can withdraw. That is why I would say the earning potential is quite low.
Payout method and minimum
| Method | Minimum | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PayPal | $50 | Link your PayPal under Account Settings → Payout Information |
Every paid test you complete is added to your Beta Family balance. The payment system is very straightforward, but the threshold is quite high. Link your PayPal account when you sign up, so you do not have to do it later. If you prefer a low threshold, see the fastest paying sites.
