Is MyPoints Legit or a Scam to Stay Away From? (Full 2026 Review)

MyPoints rating

MyPoints has a lot of ways to earn. It particularly has many great cashback offers both online and in-store. If you live in the US or Canada, it can be worth considering joining.

I have tested MyPoints thoroughly and have been paid by it many times. It is legit and has many ways to earn, especially cashback and deals, but the $15 threshold is high and readers report problems with support. Below is what I found.

The short answer

MyPoints is legit. It has been around since 1996, it is owned by Prodege, the company behind Swagbucks, and I have been paid by it many times. It has a lot of ways to earn, and its cashback options, deals, coupons and bonuses are the best parts.

But the payout threshold is now $15 for both PayPal and gift cards, which is quite high, and the point value is a bit confusing. Most complaints I have seen are about the support. If you prefer paid surveys, there are better survey sites with higher rewards. It is only available in the US and Canada.

What I like
  • Free to join
  • Many earning methods
  • Great cashback options and travel deals
  • Good payout methods: PayPal and many gift cards
  • Possible to earn from your phone
What I don’t like
  • Some earning methods have low rewards
  • Relatively high payout threshold
  • There have been some complaints about the support
  • The point value is a bit confusing
  • Only in the US and Canada

My experience with MyPoints

I have tested MyPoints thoroughly myself and have been paid by it many times. This is what I did myself, and what I did not test.

Is MyPoints legit and safe?

Yes, MyPoints is legit. It has a long-lasting company behind it, and I have been paid by it many times. But there have been some issues, so here is what you should know before you join.

  • Mixed experiences with support

Most MyPoints complaints I have seen are about the support. Readers in 2022 and 2024 wrote that a gift card did not arrive or that survey points were not credited, and that their tickets were closed. I have also seen many positive reviews of the support, and I received quick and helpful answers myself.

  • You may have to verify before you redeem

Readers in 2024 report that MyPoints asked for personal information or a phone number before they could redeem. Many sites have added verification because of fraud.

  • Cashback takes time

The store has to confirm your purchase first. That usually takes 2 to 5 business days, but can take up to 30 days. Then the points are pending for another 30 days. Turn off ad blockers so your purchase is tracked.

  • Some offers and games cost money

Some deals ask you to buy something or start a free trial with your credit card. Games pay points per dollar you spend, not for playing for free. Read the conditions first.

  • Watch out for fakes

MyPoints no longer seems to have official social media channels, and there are fake profiles and groups. The old Daily Scoop app no longer exists, and there are fake apps with that name. Stick to the website and the regular MyPoints app.

My takeOverall, MyPoints can be a decent way to earn some extra cash on the side. Personally, I think its cashback options, deals, coupon offers, and bonuses are the best parts of the site. If you prefer taking paid surveys, I would, however, say that there are better survey sites with higher rewards.

How you earn on MyPoints

There are 10 ways to earn, plus a joining bonus. Cashback and deals are the best ones. Tap one to read more.

Cashback when shoppingBest option
MyPoints cashback when shopping

You earn points for every dollar you spend in hundreds of online stores, including big ones like Gap, Macy’s, Norton and Dell. There is also a whole section with cashback and deals on hotels, flights, vacations and car rentals. In my opinion, it is one of the best cashback sites.

The store confirms your purchase in 2 to 5 business days, sometimes up to 30 days. The points are then pending for 30 days. With the MyPoints Score Chrome extension, you can earn cashback without logging in to MyPoints first.

Deals and offersVaries
Examples of MyPoints deals and offers

Some offers reward a free action, others ask you to buy something. For example, 1,000 points (around $6) for a free trial of ABCmouse, or 15,000 points (almost $100) for buying a Nutrisystem weight loss plan. Read the conditions so you know what you are getting into.

Paid surveysDecent
Examples of MyPoints surveys

The survey zone has quite a lot of surveys, and new ones are posted regularly. The rewards are decent compared to other survey sites, but not the highest. You will not qualify for all of them.

Fill out your profile: you get 5 points for every 10 profile questions. If you do not qualify for a survey, you get 5 points, up to 25 disqualification points a day.

Coupons25 points each

You find coupon codes for online shops and grocery coupons in the cashback section and through the MyPoints Score extension. You earn 25 points for every coupon you redeem and 1 point for every printed coupon.

Magic ReceiptsPer product
Examples of MyPoints Magic Receipts offers

Add products from the Magic Receipts section to your list, buy them in a participating store, and upload a photo of the receipt through the app or the website. Upload it while the offer is still live.

Daily goals bonusSmall
MyPoints daily goals bonus

Hit your daily goals by answering surveys, finding deals, watching videos and more, and you get bonus points. You earn more if you complete them on consecutive days.

Referral program10%

You earn 10% of your friends’ qualifying points. MyPoints pays this, so it does not affect your friends’ earnings.

Point PerksInstant points
MyPoints Point Perks example

Point Perks are codes for free points, like promo codes on other sites. You find them on the MyPoints website, for example on a merchant page, in a deals disclaimer or in a video description. Be careful with codes from social media, because there are fake profiles and groups.

Games4–8 points per dollar spent
Games on MyPoints

You do not earn just by playing for free. You earn usually 4 to 8 points per dollar you spend in a game. Only worth it if you already spend money on those games.

Search and earnRandom
MyPoints search and earn option

Points are awarded randomly throughout the day when you search through MyPoints. It detects unnatural searches, so use it like any other search engine. It is not a way to make big money.

How much can you make?

If you are active, use some of the deals and shopping options, and get some of the bonuses, you can earn some nice extra cash on the side. It will not make you a full-time income or make you rich.

It is particularly good if you shop online or travel often. You then earn while spending money you were going to spend anyway, and the other earning methods add extra income.

Payout methods and minimums

MethodMinimum
PayPal$15
Gift cards: many options$15

The threshold used to depend on the reward: Amazon gift cards started at $3 and PayPal at $10. After all the changes to the site, it is now $15 for both PayPal and gift cards, which is quite high, in my opinion.

The point value varies a bit per reward. By my calculations, 100 points are approximately $0.62. With a bit of practice, you quickly get used to it. If you shop online, also see the best cashback websites.

  1. MyPOINTS REWARDS REDEMPTIONS — !!ONLY!! WAY TO REDEEM POINTS IS WITH A CELL PHONE. SO—-if your cell phone breaks/no longer able to use it, then ALL YOUR POINTS JUST SIT THERE. NO e-Cards. NO PAYPAL DOLLARS to transfer to your bank for cash. NO NOTHING. So the goal of being rewarded for sticking with the MyPoints website to shop etc, is down the drain. Is especially sad when it happens at Christmas time……………

  3. They aren’t awarding points that members have earned. It’s not just me. I’ve sent in tickets for points that I’ve earned and they mark them as solved and close them to further comments without crediting them. I have to keep sending in tickets and they keep closing them. I’ve seen other members complaining about this. They points are practically nothing in themselves, but it seems the company wants us to spend hours doing stupid surveys and don’t want to award our points. It’s very frustrating. I am a senior citizen and I shouldn’t have to spend so much time sending in tickets for surveys that should have credited in the first place. Over the last two days I’ve completed six surveys that didn’t credit. I sent in a ticket for one because I figured if I sent in tickets for all of them they would just close them. They just closed a ticket that I have sent in five times for credit. I’m fed up with their nonsense so am reporting them.

  4. I received an email asking me to verify that I changed my email address on MyPoints. I immediately checked the app and someone had cashed in my points for a $50 virtual cash card. I did not verify the change and looked everywhere on the help section for some way to contact MyPoints with no luck. I worked hard for those points and someone was able to just steal them so easily. If there is any way I can talk to a representative I’d appreciate the help. Otherwise, I’m done with this app.

  5. Mypoints has gone downhill because they do not deliver on their promises. I’ve been a longtime member but lately I have been cheated on surveys, shopping & promotions. I recently I redeemed mypoints for a gift card….but never received it. Requested to resend multiple times-NOTHING HAPPENED. So, I reached out to customer service…NO RESPONSE. Why participate if your points are useless & cannot be redeemed. I’m DONE!

  6. I’ve been using My Points for over 2 years now. Like many others I’ve noticed surveys have gone downhill but I click the daily emails and make the 6-20pnts there depending on the day. I’ve made some good points through their GPT offers but they don’t change often and most take 30 days to post points. (There’s an offer go thru their site to Revenue Universe for offers that pay out immediately but the payouts are much lower and not always reliable.) Rarely find offers I’m interested in that haven’t already done or have higher payout on swagbucks anymore. I’m an avid coupon shopper tho and they always have good coupons. It doesn’t matter if I’ve used other coupons or rebate sites I can still scan and get points and they add up fairly fast if you keep an eye and use them. They’ve always paid out for me. Usually within minutes. They’re good for a few extra bucks at Walmart for me (starts at 790 points for $5 gift card) or I’ll let them build up going into Christmas.

    • Thanks for sharing your experiences about this.

There have, in general, been fewer surveys on most platforms the past year because of Covid and how many companies (including market research companies) have been hit by this. But in my experience there has started being a good number of available surveys on many sites again.

  7. I have found MyPoints to be a declining program. I don’t get that many emails that I get points for clicking on anymore. They want me to watch 30min videos (that won’t play) for 5 points. And when you have a problem, for example with the surveys, you can’t get help. I haven’t done surveys for at least a year because you do 10 minutes worth of question to find you don’t qualify and get a lousy 1 point. Now that I’m furloughed due to Covid I tried to do a survey, answered 1 question to which it told me my answers didn’t match and locked my account. I’m not sure if I mistyped something or there’s a bigger problem, but I can’t get help from customer service. They wouldn’t answer me at first and now their answer is simply we can’t help you. When this program started it was amazing and I would get gift card after gift card. As of late it’s been more of a waste of time. Sad.

  8. Mypoints is a joke and full of it. They send you outdated and/or closed surveys and then tell you they can’t do anything about it. They are the ones putting the surveys on your dashboard, so they definitely know if the surveys have been closed or no longer available.
