I tested Cash4minutes to see if turning your unused phone minutes and SMS into cash is worth it. You can earn from it, but the rewards are low, bank transfers cost a high fee, and its own terms say payment is not guaranteed. Below is what I found, and which sites I recommend instead.
Legit, but low rewards and payment is not guaranteed
You earn by calling numbers and sending SMS from your phone plan. Low rewards, high bank fees, and no access numbers for the US.

The short answer
Cash4minutes is legit, because you can really earn from it. It pays you for calling certain numbers and sending SMS messages with your unused minutes and SMS.
But the rewards are low, and bank transfers cost a high fee. Its terms also clearly state that payment is not guaranteed. In my opinion, Cash4minutes is not for everyone. If you mainly want to earn extra cash, there are better options.
- Offers a simple way to earn
- You can convert your unused minutes and SMS into cash
- You can register as many phone numbers as you want, landline or mobile
- Limited earning opportunities
- Low rewards
- Has a high payout threshold
- High transaction fee for direct bank transfers
- Payment is not guaranteed
My experience with Cash4minutes
I signed up for Cash4minutes, looked at the access numbers, the SMS option, the referral program, the payout options and the terms, and made a video about it. This is what I looked at, and what I did not test.

Is Cash4minutes legit and safe?
Cash4minutes is legit, because you can really earn from it. But that does not mean you should use it. Here is what you should know before you sign up.
- Payment is not guaranteed
Cash4minutes’ terms clearly state that payment is not guaranteed, and they do not explain why. You agree to this when you sign up, so you risk never being able to get paid. After testing hundreds of free ways to earn money online, I have very rarely seen terms like this.
- High bank transfer fees
Due to an increase in bank charges, or so they claim, a bank transfer costs €5 for EUR transfers and €15 or $15 for international transfers. That is a big part of your hard-earned cash.
- Your phone provider still charges you
Your provider charges you for the calls and SMS like it normally does. Only use your free minutes and SMS, and keep track of how many minutes you have used yourself, so you do not end up spending money.
- Only registered numbers earn
Cash4minutes uses caller ID to credit you. If you call from a number that is not registered in your account, you earn nothing. SMS only earn when you send the exact text it gives you, from your registered mobile number, to the numbers it advertises.
- No access numbers in some countries
When I tested it, there were no access numbers for the US. Calling international numbers is more expensive, so you would not really earn. Check the access numbers for your country before you start.
My takeIn my opinion, Cash4minutes is not for everyone. If you have a lot of unused minutes and SMS from your phone company and a lot of time to spare, it can be a viable option, since those minutes and SMS are gone after each month anyway. But you also have to put up with high transaction fees, and you need to be aware that payment is not guaranteed.
How you earn on Cash4minutes
There are 3 ways to earn. Making calls is the main one. Tap one to read more.
Making callsAround $0.05 to $0.1 per minute
First, add the phone numbers you will use in the “My Phones” section. You can register as many numbers as you want, landline or mobile.
Then go to the “Access Numbers” section and choose a number to call. Each number shows how much you earn per minute, so call the ones that pay the most. You listen to a radio broadcast; you do not talk to a person. When the broadcast ends, hit redial.
Network providers pay Cash4minutes when their numbers call these access numbers. That is how it can pay you.
Sending SMSSignificantly lower
Each day, Cash4minutes generates unique SMS messages that you send to its numbers from your registered mobile number. You must send the exact content it gives you. Sending the same content more than once earns nothing.
You can earn from a maximum of between 200 and 300 SMS per day. The number is random each day, to stop systems that send SMS automatically.
Referral program5% of their earnings
Go to the My Referrals section, enter the email address of the person you want to invite and click “Send Invitation”. When they register through the link in the email, they become your referral.
You earn 5% of what your referral earns. Cash4minutes pays this, so it is not deducted from your referral’s earnings.
How much can you make?
You earn around $0.05 to $0.1 per minute you spend calling an access number, depending on the number and your country. SMS pay significantly less.
So the earning potential is quite low. You will literally have to spend hundreds of hours calling and sending SMS to earn a decent amount.
On the bright side, you convert unspent minutes and SMS from your phone company into cash. Not a lot of sites offer that.
Payout methods, minimum and fees
| Method | Minimum | Fee or notes |
|---|---|---|
| Direct bank transfer (EUR) | 20 units | €5 fee |
| International bank transfer | 20 units | €15 or $15 fee |
| Bitcoin | 20 units | Your earnings converted to Bitcoin |
| Amazon gift vouchers | 20 units | Your earnings converted to a gift voucher |
| Donation to charity | 20 units | You donate your earnings |
Cash4minutes is not completely clear about what a unit is worth, and the payment system is one of the many confusing things about it, in my opinion.
Remember that its terms state payment is not guaranteed. For sites without this risk and without high fees, see the top GPT sites.

This review has 4 comments since 2022: 2 from readers and 2 replies from me. These are the two questions readers asked.
A reader asked why it is promoted if it does not pay. Its terms say payment is not guaranteed, which is why I warn about it in this review.
You send each SMS from your registered mobile number, with the exact text Cash4minutes gives you. The daily limit is random, to stop systems that send SMS automatically.
“does it send SMS automatically or do I have to manually send it?”
Mikael: I explain everything in the review above.
