Nonepaid per gig, by the hour

Wonolo is another gig economy app where you can earn money by working on gigs. When you become a member of Wonolo, you will be able to take on small gigs to earn money.

Most gigs on Wonolo require manual labor. You will be asked to work in warehouses, drive trucks, and more. So, you will need to exert a lot of effort to complete the gigs. But they do pay a decent amount.

Every gig will have an hourly rate, so the total amount you will receive will depend on how many hours of work you’ve rendered. You get paid via direct bank transfer, and there is no payout threshold. You can just withdraw whatever you’ve earned from completing a gig.

Wonolo is only available in the US. However, it is currently only available in 27 cities. So, before you sign up, check their website to see whether your city is on the list. Their app works with both Android and iOS devices, though, so compatibility won’t be a problem.

#6 Field Agent

What you do
Store photos, price checks, short surveys · 8 countries
Cash out from
$5
Paid via
Bank transfer

Field Agent is one of the more popular gig economy apps. To earn from this app, you just have to work on jobs that will usually ask you to take photos of the products and prices of products in certain stores.

Some jobs will ask you to compare product prices, while some will ask you to answer short surveys. So, the jobs you need to do won’t really take up a lot of your time.

It pays via direct bank transfer, which is another convenient payment method, in my opinion. However, you need to earn at least $5 before you can transfer your earnings to your bank account. It’s a low threshold, so you shouldn’t experience any problems reaching it.

Field Agent is only available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ecuador, Mexico, Australia, South Africa, and Romania. So, if you don’t live in any of the countries mentioned, then this is not for you. But the app is available on both Android and iOS, which is a huge plus, in my opinion.

#7 Gigwalk

What you do
Store and product photos, test purchases · mostly US and Canada
Cash out from
None
Paid via
PayPal

Gigwalk offers small gigs that pay a decent amount. What makes Gigwalk a decent option is that its gigs usually don’t require much effort compared to the other platforms on this list.

Most gigs will usually ask you to take photos of a store or a product it sells. Other gigs will ask you to make a purchase. But you don’t have to worry if this is the case because they will reimburse you for the money you spent to make the purchase (provided you complete the gig).

Gigwalk pays via PayPal, so you can withdraw your earnings conveniently. You also don’t have to reach a threshold to withdraw your earnings. You can just withdraw whatever you’ve earned from a gig.

Gigwalk is available in all countries. However, most of the gigs are for the US and Canada. From time to time, there will be gigs for other countries like India, the UK, Australia, Germany, and France. But you need to be patient if you don’t live in the US or Canada, since there aren’t many gigs available outside those two countries. Nonebackground check and drug test cost money first
Paid via
Bank transfer · PayPal · WorkMarket Visa (US)

WorkMarket is a site where you can find jobs/gigs to earn extra money. However, most of the gigs offered on this site will be related to the healthcare, training, and insurance sectors. So, it’s more of a niche site, in my opinion.

The one thing you need to keep in mind with WorkMarket is that before you can apply for a job, you will have to complete a few things first, like your profile, background check, drug test, and more. The background check and the drug test cost a bit of money, too ($20 and $25, respectively).

So, I would only suggest you join this site if you don’t mind spending a bit of money in the beginning. But you can usually easily earn back what you spent, since most jobs pay well.

As for the types of jobs you can do, there’s actually a wide range of jobs available in WorkMarket. But you do have to be skilled to perform these jobs. It almost feels like a site where you can actually get part-time work, in my opinion.

WorkMarket currently offers three payment methods, and it will depend on your location. If you live in the US, you can get paid via direct bank transfer, PayPal, or via the WorkMarket Visa. If you live in Canada or anywhere else, you can only get paid via direct bank transfer or PayPal.

There’s no payout threshold, so you can withdraw your earnings anytime. They don’t specify which countries it is available in, but most of the jobs available are only for people in the US or Canada. So, if you don’t live in any of the countries mentioned, you will have a hard time finding jobs.

They have an app you can download so you can apply for jobs using your mobile device. It works with both Android and iOS devices.

What are gig jobs, and where can you usually find them?

Gig jobs are jobs that last for a specific period, usually only a day or two. When you get hired for a gig, you become an independent contractor for a company or business. You find these jobs on gig economy sites and apps.

  1. Join a gig site or appLog in to the member dashboard, and you see all the gigs available in your area.
  2. Claim or applyPick the gigs you are interested in, and claim them or apply for them.
  3. Do the workIf you get accepted, show up at the location and do the work the gig asks for.
  4. Get paidYou get the pay you were promised once the employer approves the job.

How much money can you make from these gig jobs?

Not a full-time job

Gig jobs are not a replacement for a full-time job, so it is not something you can earn a living from.

A good way to earn extra

You can still earn a decent amount, especially from gigs that involve manual labor. Be prepared to spend time and effort.

Where you live matters most

In my experience, there are plenty of gig jobs in major cities and only a few, if any, in small cities. Most of the apps on this list only work in the US, and some only in certain cities.

How the 16 sites and apps pay youNumber of sites and apps that offer each payout method. Some offer more than one, and for a few it is not clear yet.

Live in a small city?

Then you are better off with Get-Paid-To (GPT) and survey sites. They mostly care about the country you live in, not your city. And if you only want small tasks from home, check out the top survey and GPT sites in your country.

How I choose the sites on this list

Mikael

I only put a site on this list when I have tested it myself. I test hundreds of sites every year, and I keep this list updated.

Mikael, founder of PaidFromSurveys

What I look at

  • I have tested it myself
  • Legit: you get paid when you do the job right
  • Really worth your time
  • You decide when you work

Ready to start?

I have tested all of these sites and apps, and they are legit. WorkMarket asks you to pay for a background check and a drug test before you can apply. I recommend you join several of these sites and apps, so you get access to more gigs and can choose the ones that pay better. If you live in a small city, check out the top survey and GPT sites in your country too.

I keep this list updated, so bookmark this page. Know a site that belongs here, or have a question? Leave a comment below.

Frequently asked questions

Are any gig jobs worth it?

Yes, as a way to earn extra income in your free time, and you decide when you work. You can earn a decent amount, but it takes time and effort.

They are most worth it if you live in a big city. In small cities, there are only a few gigs, if any.

Can you make a living off of gig work?

No. Gig jobs are not a replacement for a full-time job. See them as a way to earn extra income. To get more gigs, join several sites and apps, and pick the gigs that pay better.

What are some good side gig apps to make money?

My top 3 are Shiftsmart, GigSpot and PetBacker. Most apps on this list only work in the US. PetBacker works in more or less all countries, Gigwalk takes members from all countries, and Field Agent works in 8 countries.

The comparison shows where each app works and how it pays.

What is the highest paying gig app?

It depends on the job and where you live. Sites for skilled work, like WorkMarket for healthcare, training and insurance jobs, or Qwick for hospitality work, usually pay well, but you need the skills and experience. Manual work on Wonolo also pays a decent amount, but takes a lot of effort.

Who works in the gig economy?

Anyone who wants to earn extra on their own schedule. When you take a gig, you work as an independent contractor for a company, not as an employee. You need to live where the gigs are: most apps on this list only work in the US, often only in certain cities.
