Audio Bee paid freelancers for audio transcription and voice recording jobs. It has now closed. I tested it myself before that. Below is what I found, and which sites I would pick instead.

The short answer

Audio Bee has closed. Its website is no longer accessible, so you can no longer join or earn there.

When it was running, it was legit: it paid you for transcribing audio and recording your voice. But you could not start earning right away, because you first had to pass tests and training you were not paid for. There were not many jobs, its rates were a bit lower than most similar sites, and later the website was covered in ads.

What I like
  • Paid through PayPal and Payoneer
  • Processed payments automatically every week
What I don’t like
  • Audio Bee has closed
  • Limited earning opportunities
  • Not the highest earnings
  • You could not start earning right away
  • The website lacked useful information about the jobs
  • Ads covering the content gave a bad user experience
  • Support did not reply to my questions

My experience with Audio Bee

I signed up for Audio Bee, went through its tests for transcription and voice recording jobs, and contacted its support. This is what I did myself, and what I did not test.

Was Audio Bee legit and safe?

Audio Bee has closed, so you can no longer join or earn on it. When it was running, it was legit, because it really paid you for transcription and voice recording jobs. These were the catches.

  • It has closed

Audio Bee’s website is no longer accessible.

  • Unpaid tests before your first job

Each job type had its own test. The transcription test had 10 questions, a 25-minute limit and an 80% pass mark, and you got two tries. If you failed twice, you could not work on jobs in that language anymore.

  • Few jobs, and lower rates than most

There were not a lot of jobs, especially outside countries like the US, the UK and Canada. Jobs that paid near the top of the listed range were rare, and the rates were a bit lower than most similar sites.

  • Your work had to pass a check

Finished work took 2 to 3 business days to verify. If it did not meet their standards, you were not paid.

  • Poor support and an unprofessional website

The FAQ page was close to useless, and support did not reply when I emailed them. Later, the sign-up form was a Google form, and ads covered much of the content on the website.

My takeAudio Bee has closed, so it is no longer an option. Even when it was running, I did not think it was a good site to join: it was hard to start earning, and even after you passed the tests, there was no guarantee of many jobs. See the alternatives below.

How you earned on Audio Bee

There were 4 ways to earn. Audio transcription was the main one. Tap one to read more.

Audio transcription jobs$24 to $120 per audio hour
Audio transcription jobs on Audio Bee

You listened to an audio file and typed everything you heard, following Audio Bee’s guidelines. Before your first job, you had to pass the test for the language you wanted to work in. I recommended reading the guidelines first, because they really helped you pass.

The test had 10 questions, a 25-minute limit and an 80% pass mark, so you were allowed two mistakes. You had two tries. If you passed, you signed an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) before you started receiving jobs. Some jobs also needed training first.

Audio Bee listed $24 to $120 per audio hour. But it was hard to find jobs with audio files that long, and in my experience, jobs near $120 per audio hour were rare. Expect the lower end of the range.

Voice recording jobs$5 to $50 per job
Voice recording jobs on Audio Bee

You first submitted 3 voice samples. You needed a decent microphone and a room with little or no background noise. Audio Bee reviewed the samples, gave feedback if needed and let you redo them.

Clients chose who to accept based on your samples. When a job fit your profile, you applied, and the client decided. Audio Bee listed $5 to $50 per job, but clients were picky, so it was tough to land one.

Translation and segmentationSometimes

Audio Bee sometimes offered these tasks, but they were not among the options when I tested it, so I could not test them. The same process applied: you took a test before you could start.

Referral program$1 to $20 per referral

You shared your invite link. According to Audio Bee, you could earn $1 to $20 per referral once they completed a project.

That was the only clear information about it on the site, so it was hard to push for referrals when you did not really know what you would get.

How much could you make?

The listed rates looked decent, but compared to the going rate for transcription and voice recording, Audio Bee paid a bit lower than most other sites that offer this kind of work.

And there were not a lot of jobs. You also had to pass tests and do training before you could earn, which took a lot of time you were not paid for. So the earning potential was not that good. If you were already great at transcribing and willing to put in some unpaid time to qualify, it could be a way to earn some extra money.

How Audio Bee paid

You earned US dollars for every job, credited to your balance once the work was verified. Audio Bee paid you automatically at the end of every week.

MethodMinimumNotes
PayPal$10A personal PayPal account was fine
Payoneer$10Paid weekly

Direct bank transfer used to be a standard payout method, but it was no longer offered. Audio Bee said it offered local payouts in some countries, without explaining what that meant.

What 22 readers told me

This review has 43 comments since July 2021: 22 from readers and 21 replies from me. These are the three things readers ask about most.

Waiting for test results6 comments

Readers who took the tests waited days or weeks while their result showed “Review pending”. Audio Bee did not say how long a review took.

The NDA and getting paid3 comments

Readers asked whether to sign the NDA after passing a test, how to sign it, and which PayPal account they needed. You had to sign the NDA to work for them, and a personal PayPal account was fine.

Sign-up and login problems3 comments

A few readers could not open the freelancer sign-up form or log in, and could not find a way to reach support.

“It’s been two days since I took the single audio test for transcription but it’s still showing “Review pending”. Just how many days do I have to wait?”

Reader, August 2021
Mikael: They do not say exactly how long you have to wait. But keep me updated about how it goes.

“I have not been able to login into Audio Bee for a month now. I always get the same error after several trials 504 Gateway Time-out”

“I was reading the guidelines and it says no capital letters at begging of a sentence, no periods and no comas to break sentences. There is a YouTuber who does a demo, she puts the comas, periods and capital letters”

Mikael: What their guide says is what I would go for. Not all YouTubers know what they are talking about:-)

    Reply
    • Who did you pay a security deposit to? Because legit data entry jobs will not ask for a security deposit so it sounds like you might have been scammed, to be honest.
